Description
If you receive the error message, "Could not open Chrome, Please check that it is properly installed on your computer," first ensure that Chrome is up to date. You can check if there are any updates by going to the Chrome browser Settings, then to the About Chrome option on the left menu. If your browser updates, this should resolve the issue. Otherwise, LEAPWORK may not be able to find Chrome.exe file in its default location, usually, the default location in 64-bit Windows operating system is C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe and in 32-bit Windows operating system it is C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe.
This issue usually occurs when Chrome is installed for only one or a specific user, not all of them. This results in the chrome.exe file being copied to a local user folder path instead of the standard path.
Resolution 1.
- Make sure to have a compatible Chrome browser version and Chrome driver (C:\Program Files\ LEAPWORK\Studio\chromedriver.exe). If not then, follow the link.
- Re-install Chrome for all users using a standalone installer. This will install Chrome for all users. It’s advisable to use the latest Chrome version.
- If you don't want to install Chrome for all users then you can create a system environment variable with a specific path to Chrome. Follow the following steps to set the user path.
- Find the Google Chrome shortcut, right-click it and select Properties
- Copy the target path as previously highlighted.
-
Right-click This PC, and select Properties from the menu.
-
Choose Advanced system settings on the left-hand side to open the System Properties.
- Check if the Chrome path is already there and if yes, update it or create a new Chrome variable with the name Chrome and then paste the target path in the chrome.exe Shortcut Properties, as in step 2, and click Ok.
- After clicking Ok in the dialogue box, try running your chrome test again.
- Find the Google Chrome shortcut, right-click it and select Properties
