Description
Because of specific certificate signing policies in LEAPWORK, Windows Access Control Settings is preventing older LEAPWORK versions from opening LEAPWORK Studio.
Resolution
We strongly recommend updating to the latest version. Alternatively, users can attempt one of the following methods:
METHOD 1: Run in Compatibility Mode with Administrative Privileges
Follow the below steps to resolve the issue.
1. Right-click the LEAPWORK shortcut icon and select Properties.
2. At the Compatibility tab, click Change settings for all users.
3. Check the Run this program as an administrator checkbox and then click OK twice to close the LEAPWORK properties.
4. Now launch LEAPWORK Studio. The error "A referral was returned from the server" should be gone.
METHOD 2: Registry Settings Changes:
1. Open the Registry Editor:
- Simultaneously press the Windows + R keys on your keyboard.
- At the Run window, type regedit & press Enter.
2. Navigate to this registry key in the left pane:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\
3. In the right pane, double click at ValidateAdminCodeSignatures and set the Value data to 0 (zero).
4. Then open the EnableUIADesktopToggle value and set the Value data to 0.
5. Click OK, close Registry Editor and restart your computer.
METHOD 3: Group Policy Changes:
1. Open the Local Group Policy Editor:
- Simultaneously press the Windows + R keys on your keyboard.
- At the Run window, type gpedit.msc & press Enter.
2. Inside the Local Group Policy Editor, in the left pane navigate to:
Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options.
3. Look at the right pane and double click the User Account Control: Only elevate executables that are signed and validated policy.
4. Change the security setting to Disabled and click OK.
5. Then set the Allow UIAccess policy to Disabled.
6. Close the Local Group Policy Editor and restart your computer.
